Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
