Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the early names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the team's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the team - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club directors as they start the search of appointing a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work meaning the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
